So it is yet another Saturday where Herschell has to go to work. So I find myself doing my “normal” Saturday routine – vacuum the entire house, make the bed, clean the room, wash and leftover dishes and turn on the tv and veg on the couch. However a recent trip to Target led to some unnecessary things to buy and a fun pastime to help me feel relaxed and and eased. A 48 pack of Crayola crayons and a GIANT coloring book. And not just any GIANT coloring book… A HELLO KITTY coloring book. Again it phases me that Sanrio products are slightly more expensive than any normal coloring book, as we have to give props to the wonderful inventors of the Sanrio characters (Hello Kitty, Pekkle, Pochaco, Kerropi and much much more). Where would my life have been with out these cheeky characters by side. Hello Kitty IS my homegirl.coloring book

Anyways beside the point, I found myself peacefully coloring with the curtains drawn to let in the little sunlight, a cup of hot white orchid tea and a bowl of tater tots by my side. MMMmmm…..living life to fullest. After two and half hours of picking the picture I want to color first and carefully testing each crayon on a piece of scratch paper before I officially use it, I realize that staying in between the lines is not as easy as I remember it. I mean yes, the lines are pretty thick, but for reals though, those lines just sneak up on you as you’re coloring back and forth. A crayon is not a very fine tipped utensil. However, I do prevail and I create to wonderfully colored pieces of art….

There was one terrible loss that occured before I enjoyed all the fun. Excited as I was, I opened the box as carefully as opening a Harry Winston jewelry box (i can only imagine it would be the same excitement) to see what’s inside and sadly to say the Carnation Pink crayon is longer with me as whole. I will terribly miss her as it was one of my favorite colors. Good-bye crayon, the flowers on the coloring page will never be as bright and happy.

being on your own is hard. I have been back 4 days now, I find that my eating habits are pretty bad and lazy. I need to shape up, what happened to the healthy organic me. My consumption for the past few days have been pretty steady….

It’s almost like groundhogs day. I NEED A COOKS!

Dum Sum @ Top Gun!

So for the past week, everyone has been asking me what my plans were for the weekend – and all I had to say was DIM SUM . There is definitely a little lack of good Asian food in Seattle, and dim sum is one of my favorites. So saving a drive to Vancouver, for what I hear has amazing dim sum, we gave Seattle one more try. We choose TOP GUN in Bellevue. It was a bit sketch at first since we were told by the hostess that KFC was one of the landmarks to find to locate them. Anyways, I figured if the food sucks, at least we can buy a bucket of chicken if we’re still hungry. But to my surprise, it was really good. Everything was nice and hot, since we were the table closest to the kitchen and the variety was good. I think Seattle stands a chance…it’s not a total loss to the dim sum world.

Crossing the Street

Crossing the Street!

So Hersch and I spent a day exploring what the greater Seattle area had to offer. We found ourselves in Kirkland – the home of COSTCO!!! Besides the great Lake Washington views it had to offer, it was also one the most highly pedestrian conscious cities I have ever been to. Not only did they have the cross walks with the flashing lights (that no one sees) on the ground, they also had bins at every cross walk post full of these yellow flags. 62 people have died crossing the streets in Kirkland, and thanks to those yellow flags, I was not one of them.

I took every chance there was to pull Herschell to cross the street with me. Now, I think NORMAL people hold the flag still and just walk with it. I held some great flag waving power and march to a different beat of a drum. Let’s just say I think I may have pulled a shoulder muscle waving it sporadically and like my life depended on it. But hey, that’s what it’s for, how else are the cars suppose to know you’re coming if you don’t run and wave it around like there are badgers chasing you?? I think Hersch was a little mad he didn’t think of embarrassing me first with it =P. Either way, props to the city of Kirkland for providing most excellent pedestrian safety and awareness. I have now lived one more day.

on a side note, we thought a video post was needed to show the people of Kirkland that some people shouldn’t be so unenthusiastic about holding the flag…it saves lives. But then we thought SAFETY FIRST – since me running back and forth waving across a busy street my have actually gotten me hit by a car.

i just wanna eat!

omg….why do asian people tie knots so tight….all i want to do is dig into my food that you just delivered and I can’t get past the freakin plastic bag. And being my stingy/recyclable self, I want the bag in one piece so I can reuse it, so i don’t want to tear into it. So loosen up on the packing bag tie-er guy, so i don’t have to throw a fit just to get to my dinner

luck of the wheel

the slot machines, never cease to catch my eye, ears and hard earned money. After spending about 25 minutes tired and exhausted as hell, I decided to try my luck at the slots. My choice, “wheel of fortune.” After walking around the Mandalay bay casino and passing the row of “wheel of fortune” machines about 3 times (i’m pretty sure surveillance was on me, since I walked the entire casino floor about 4 different ways), i finally decided that I was ready to take on a machine, and there was no one playing around me. I did feel a sense of awkwardness- since there was a woman who was also watching the “wheel of fortune” machines, but I was too buzzed and too tired to think about her. As I sit at the machine of choice and carefully flatten out my $20.00 and then another $10.00, the woman SITS DOWN RIGHT NEXT TO ME!!! I’m thinking “seriously lady….ummmm…what the hell!!!” that is totally bad slot machine etiquette, she completely took my luck away from me. She only put in $20 and got 3, THREE, 3 freakin spins, while I left $30 poorer, flies in my wallet, and the worst part, I didn’t even get a ONE chance to SPIN! Meanwhile, I spent the rest of the night, watching the craps table and having the dice pusher guy better my understanding of the rules of the game. With wallet in hand for about 45 minutes and talking to the guy, I didn’t put any money down. I wasn’t feeling it. Hmmm maybe my luck will change next time =T

Ok ok….are you kidding me, the government takes taxes out on your savings??!??

seriously….who knew  >=O

oOh mr. sun

so i’ll be coming home for the next few days or so… I know it’s raining ALL over california, but no “oOh seattle girl brought down the rain” jokes ok?
I miss the sun and a tan, can’t wait to see everyone =D

while watching the NFC Championship today, I realized that the kicker on the team has A LOT of pressure. He may never have to wear pads or gear, but his role in the game is huge. I am not a huge sports watcher, but I do find it exciting when I find myself watching a great game. The Greenbay/Giants game today was just that. Fumbles here and there, interceptions, and missed field goals. Which got me thinking, DUDE the kicker on the time is totally a make it or break it position. The kicker for the Giants lossed the game for them when he missed his second field goal. 3 seconds of his life…and he is the most hated man in ALL of NY. He disappointed his team, his coach, his state. All he had to do was kick the ball through the posts (“Laces out, Dan”..haha). Anyways, he missed and they went into overtime. Overtime, sudden death and Greenbay wins the coin toss. Favre should THRIVE in this situation – something amazing is going to happen for Greenbay, it always does, right….nope…interception and the Giants take it back. So this time 47 yards to goal, and they decide to bring in the kicker. I’m thinking, “oh man this guy sucks…he’s not going to make it he alreayd lost it once.” The ball snaps, laces are out… he kicks it..IT’S IN!!! GIANTS WIN!!

Anyways, this post wasn’t suppose to be a synopsis of the last crucial moments of the game. It was during these moments watching – where I made the revelations of what a kicker must go through! I mean how many games have been dependent on this ONE person. I mean you miss, you suck, you make it and you’re amazing. He’s only as good as his last kick, no one is going to remember how he messed up in the game, if he makes it when it counts that’s all the matters!OOoh the pressure!

So a really good breakfast place is something that we have been looking for here in the great northwest. The food selection in Seattle has been- shall I say…slightly under par. Anyways, eggs and potatoes – some of my favorite things too chow down on, are two pretty basic food staples that are pretty hard to mess up. So why is it taking FOREVER and a day to find a place here that satisfies this need? We’ve been to 4-5 places upon recommendation from others and fellow yelpers, and to my dismay I am not very amused. I just have to say, that I think seattle yelpers are a little misinformed when it comes to good food.

Today while walking through Barnes and Nobles, Seattle Magazine has read my mind and this month’s issue is, “50 BEST Breakfast Places.” Skimming through this top 50, I have eaten at 5 of the 50 – Lola’s, The Dish, Atlas, Jade Garden, and Senor Moose. I honestly can’t believe that some of these places made it. I don’t think I would wait in line on a sunday morning to eat at these places again.

SO only 45 more to go – I will continue my search for the best breakfast ever here in Seattle. I may find that gem, but I think I will mostly just be utterly disappointed. Stay tuned till next time =)
